Mabel House was constructed in 1843 and iis surprisngly well preserved for its age. While it was once the home of the Mable family, Mableton’s namesake,  it is now a popular historic site.  It earned its place on the Naional Register of Historic Sites when the home was restored to its 1890s glory. The home is now opn for tours daily and is a great way to spend a morning taking a step back in time. This historic site sits on 16 of the original 400+ acres of the farm. Visitors can see the kitchen house, corn crib, sweet potato house, storage barn, and original smokehouse. The historic site also includes the Mabel family cemetary. This house has served many purposes over the years – family home, Civil War hospital, and now tourist attraction. The Mabel House is also the site of concerts , exhibitions, and even a summer camp. This multiuse space is just one of the many examples of just how rich in history Mabelton is.

Mabelton is served by the Cobb County public school system. This school district, which includes all of Cobb County except Marietta, is the sedond largest school system in Georgia, serving over 100,000 students each year. Cobb County schools strive to provide a productive atmosphere for all students. To accomplish this, the districts schools include a numbr of charter schools and special needs programs that focus on using small class sizes to meet the needs of every student.

Mabelton is aso home to several more traditional parks, including Heritage Park, which is the site of a boardwalk, picnic pavillion, and hiking trails. Another popular hiking spot is the Silver Comet Trail. This trail got its name from the Silver Comet passenger train that originally followed this route. The trail travels all the way from Smyrna to the Georgia-Alabama state line. Baseball enthusiasts will love Lions Park. This park includes 2 baseball fields in addition to batting cages. The wide range of facilities offered by the Mabelton Parks and Recreation Department is a prime example of how Mabelton residents take full advantage of the beautiful Georgia weather.

Another fun, outdoor event is the farmer’s market. The Mabelton Farmer’s Market Is held every Thursday morning (May – September) at that Marbel House Complex. In addition to the wide range of locally grown produce and hand made goods, the Mabelton Farmer’s Market also offers a series of events, classes, and lectures that focus on eating right and being healthy.
